PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL—Dogs have
been used for centuries in numerous capacities from herders to guides and from
hunters to drug spotters but, they now have been trained in a whole new line of
work, MOLD DETECTIVE. The first trained mold dog detective in the Palm Beach
Area has arrived and is ready to sniff out mold problems that may be affecting
peoples health, home, apartment or business.
“We all know that mold is everywhere here in Florida and it really may not have
any affect on the average person. But, when concentrations are high in the
home and possibly hidden by the walls, appliances or other hard to find
locations it continues to grow and could be hurting the air you breath.”
Said Vikki Dodge of K9 Mold Inspection, Inc. and “Elsa” her 18-month-old
Entlebucher (Swiss Mountain Cattle Dog). “Elsa” went through 800 – 1000
hours of training under the guidance of MoldDog™'s Certified Master
Trainer Bill Whitstine. Bill has over 15 years of experience training bomb,
arson, drug, termite and other dogs. He has been featured on the Discovery
Channel and Animal Planet's show, "Dogs with Jobs".
Europeans have used mold sniffing dogs for the past 20 years and have found them
to be more timely, efficient and accurate than many of the mechanized methods
that can take up to seven days to get accurate results added Dodge. “With a
Molddog™ the area needing attention can be
quickly pinpointed and a referral made to a contractor to get the problem fixed
immediately saving the person time and money.”
The Environmental Protection Agency has noted in “Guide to Mold”, it takes moist
areas for mold to grow. The key is to locate the mold and discover where it is
getting moisture, fix the leak and remove the mold. “A trained Molddog™ can
detect mold growth in hidden places, like wall linings, floors or behind
insulation. Even the smallest microorganism can emit gaseous substances that may
lead to health problems and/or unpleasant odors,” said Dodge.
With numerous companies offering mold detection services consumers are reminded
to check into licensing, certifications and training. Elsa is a certified
Molddog™, Ms. Dodge is a certified handler and mold inspector through ESA
(premier environmental training association in the nation) Further information
on the K9MOLD program can be obtained by calling 561-309-3663.
